text: Cecil Richard Yates Sr was an American professional track cyclist. He is best known for his success in six-day racing, having 18 victories in his career and was described as being a strong sprinter. During World War II, Yates served the Army Air Force for 34 months, being promoted up to a Sergeant. He retired from cycling in 1950, winning 18 of 56 total six-day races he entered. He was inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame in 2007.
