It was founded in January 24, 1719. The town was named after the town's hero, Major Jose Torres Bugallon, who was born in Salasa. Salasa, the old town site became one of the barangays of the municipality. class municipality effective July 29, 2008. Bugallon is an agricultural municipality producing rice, corn, cassava, sugar cane, and vegetables.
