Breaking the Pose – alternately titled Breaking the Pose – is an oil painting from 1986 by the painter Jerome Witkin. Completed when the artist was 47 and working as a professor at Syracuse University, the work demonstrates why Witkin has been called one of the greatest contemporary artists of his time and one of today’s great narrative painters.
