text: Robert William "Bob" Packwood is an American retired lawyer and politician from Oregon. A member of the Republican Party, he served as a member of the United States Senate from 1969 to 1995. He resigned from the U.S. Senate under threat of expulsion, in 1995 after allegations of sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and assault of women emerged. As of September 2024, Packwood is one of the last two living former U.S. senators who assumed office in the 1960s, along with Fred R. Harris of Oklahoma.
