Bistrița Bârgăului is a commune in Bistrița-Năsăud County, Transylvania, Romania. It is composed of two villages, Bistrița Bârgăului and Colibița (Kolibica). The commune is located in the eastern part of the county, on the border with Mureș and Suceava counties. It lies on the banks of the river Bistrița, nestled between the Bârgău Mountains to the north and the Călimani Mountains to the south. National road DN17 connects Bistrița Bârgăului to the county seat, Bistrița, 25 km (16 mi) to the west
