Bimaximal mixing refers to a proposed form of the lepton mixing matrix. It is characterized by the ν 3 neutrino being a bimaximal mixture of ν μ and ν τ and being completely decoupled from the ν e , i.e. a uniform mixture of ν μ and ν τ . The ν e is consequently a uniform mixture of ν 1 and ν 2 . Other notable properties are the symmetries between the ν μ and ν τ flavours and ν 1 and ν 2 mass eigenstates and an absence of CP violation.
