William Douglas Workman III was an American businessman and politician who served as the mayor of Greenville, South Carolina from 1983 to 1995. Greenville is the seat of Greenville County, the state's most populous county, at the center of the Upstate South Carolina region. Originally from the southern part of the state, Workman began work in journalism before entering politics. He worked in Governor James B. Edwards' administration in the latter 1970s, after which he was honored with the Order
