William Edmund Hemmingfield was an English footballer who played for Sheffield Wednesday and Grimsby Town. He started his career as a centre forward before switching to defence. Hemmingfield was born in Ecclesfield, Sheffield in August 1875 and played as an amateur for Mexborough Town before joining Sheffield Wednesday for the 1898–99 season. He scored for Wednesday on his debut against Nottingham Forest on 10 September 1898 and ended that season as top scorer for the club with eight goals. Howe
