text: William Robert Dotson was a track and field athlete from the University of Kansas. He was the seventh person in the United States to break the four-minute mile barrier, with a time of 3:59.0 on June 23, 1962. In 2016 he was selected for inclusion in the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. Dotson graduated from Concordia High School in 1958, where as an athlete he broke Glenn Cunningham's mile record that had stood for 28 years.
