Bhojpuri cinema, also known as Bhojiwood, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Bhojpuri language widely spoken in eastern Uttar Pradesh and western Bihar. Its major production centres are Lucknow and Patna. The first Bhojpuri talkie film, Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo, was released in 1963 by Bishwanath Prasad Shahabadi and Jai Narayan Lal.
