text: Australian rules football was first played in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) in 1911 at the Federal Capital. A competition, AFL Canberra, has existed since 1924 and the code in the ACT is governed by that organsation. It is the second most participated football code with more than 8,000 registered players.
