An aulacodont is an animal in which the dentition is arranged within grooves rather than individual sockets or without bone encasement. It is known from several aquatic amniotes: ichthyosaurs, Hesperornis, Ichthyornis, juvenile caimans, some cetaceans and even some ctenochasmatoid pterosaurs.
