text: August Pettinen was a Finnish missionary who worked in Owamboland for twenty years from 1887. He developed the mission schools, experimented with cotton cultivation in Owamboland and drew ndonga-language textbooks. He collected linguistic and ethnological material, which was published in the periodical Zeitschrift für Eingeborenensprachen between 1925 and 1927.
