Asen Gavrilov was a Bulgarian ballet dancer and choreographer. Gavrilov was born in Sofia. In 1946 he entered the ballet school of Анастас Петров. He became a principal dancer in the National Opera and Ballet of Bulgaria in 1948. He received the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius, 1st class, in 1959; and the award of People's Artist in 1965 for his contributions to Bulgarian culture. He was renowned for his roles in Swan Lake, Giselle and The Dragon and Yana, and by his choreography of Aida and
