text: Colonel Archer Fortescue "Scotty" Duguid was a Scottish-Canadian engineer, army officer, historian, and vexillologist. Duguid was raised in Scotland and moved to Canada in 1906 to study at McGill University. In 1914 he received a commission in the Canadian Army and served as an artillery officer in World War I. Following the war, in 1921 he was appointed director of the army's Historical Section, a position he held until 1945; he remained the official historian of the Canadian Expeditionary Forc
