An antibody elution is a clinical laboratory diagnostic procedure which removes sensitized antibodies from red blood cells, in order to determine the blood group system antigen the antibody targets. An antibody elution is deemed necessary when antibodies of the immunoglobulin class G (IgG) are found sensitized (bound) to peripheral red cells collected from a blood product transfusion recipient.
