Annetta Thompson Mills (1853–1929) was a Presbyterian missionary and educator of the Deaf in China. Adapting the Lyon Phonetic Manual's fingerspelling system to represent phonetic forms of Chinese characters, in 1908 Mills published what is understood as the first Chinese fingerspelling textbook.
