Angus Ross was a New Zealand historian with a particular interest in the history and development of New Zealand's foreign policy. He was a professor of history at the University of Otago from 1965 until his retirement in 1976. Ross joined the teaching faculty at Otago in 1934, after his master's thesis on Te Pūoho's raid was judged the best in New Zealand in its year. His early publications promoted a more nationalist foreign policy for New Zealand. To many people's surprise, he volunteered for
