Alan Richard Simpson was an English first-class cricketer and an officer in the British Indian Army. Simpson was born at Shaftesbury in June 1890. He served in the First World War with the British Indian Army Reserve of Officers, being commissioned as a second lieutenant in July 1915. A further promotion to lieutenant followed in July 1916. Following the war, he was promoted to captain in April 1920, prior to retiring from the Indian Army in April 1923. Shortly before his retirement, he made a s
