Albert M. "Al" Drootin was an American jazz clarinetist and saxophone player. He was the brother of drummer Buzzy Drootin and father of pianist Sonny Drootin. Drootin played locally in Dixieland jazz groups in Boston in the 1930s, then moved to New York, where he played and toured with Bud Freeman, Muggsy Spanier, Al Donahue and Boyd Raeburn. He did a stint in the United States Army during World War II, then came back to Boston, where he worked for George Wein in the 1950s playing with Ruby Braf
