Ahmad Ismail Hassan Yasin was a Palestinian religious leader and politician who was co-founded Hamas in 1987 and served as the first chairman of the Hamas Shura Council from December 1987 until his assassination in March 2004. Yasin was born in Ashkelon, Mandatory Palestine and he along with his family fled or were expelled during the 1948 Palestine War to Gaza City.
