Abu Mansur al-Maturidi was an Sunni scholar and theologian who is the eponym of the Maturidi school of theology in Sunnism. A follower of the Hanafi school of jurisprudence, al-Maturidi was a leading figure of the Islamic Golden Age. Born in Maturid from where he took his nisba, al-Maturidi's teachers include Abu Bakr al-Juzjani and Abu Nasr al-Ayadi. Known as Shaykh al-islam by contemporaries, al-Maturidi's works include Tafsir al-Maturidi, a classic exegesis of the Qur'an, and Kitab al-Tawhid
