text: Abdul Hamid Mohtat, born in 1944 in Parwan province, was an Afghan politician and military officer. After graduating from a military school in 1964, he trained as an engineer in the Soviet Union. He served as Minister of Communications in 1973 but was dismissed in 1974 by Mohammed Daoud Khan. In June 1978, he was appointed as Afghanistan's ambassador to Japan. Mohtat later served as Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister under President Najibullah from May 1988 to April 1992.
