Abarema cochliocarpos is a species of tree in the legume family, Fabaceae. Its common name is barbatimão. It is endemic to Brazil, where it occurs in Alagoas, Bahia, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte and São Paulo. There is a coastal form and an inland form of this species. The coastal form can exceed 10 meters in height. The inland form is up to 4 meters tall and has smaller leaflets which are tougher in texture.
