text: The 4x4 house is a private residential house designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando and located in Tarumi-ku, Kobe, Hyogo, on the coast of the Inland Sea in Japan. It is also a type of house built in the US from the 1700s until the early 20th Century. It is defined by having two rooms on each side separated by a full length central hallway on both floors. There is also 6x6 as well. Most of the big Southern plantation homes and old farmhouses are built as 4x4 or 6x6, the X meaning 2 floors
