text: The 40th Infantry Regiment "Bologna" is an inactive unit of the Italian Army last based in Bologna. The regiment is named for the city of Bologna and part of the Italian Army's infantry arm. On 12 June 1859, a volunteer brigade was formed in Turin, which occupied Bologna during the Second Italian War of Independence. In Bologna the brigade formed two regiments and on 1 October 1859, the brigade was renamed Brigade "Bologna". On 1 January 1860, the two regiments were renumbered 39th Infantry Regi
