The 3rd Texas Cavalry Regiment was a unit of mounted volunteers from Texas that fought in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. In May 1862, John R. Baylor received authority to organize five battalions of Partisan Rangers of six companies each. The purpose of the so-called Arizona Brigade was to reconquer the southwestern territories lost during the New Mexico campaign. One of the battalions was commanded by George T. Madison, the former deputy sheriff of Tucson, Arizona. A
