On August 12, 2023, King Abdullah II ratified a new cybercrime law, Law No. 17 of 2023, which threatens Jordanians' freedom of expression, their right to anonymity, and their right to access information. The law does not meet international human rights standards nor principles which are included in the country's previously ratified digital rights conventions. It took effect on September 13, 2023.
