The 2019–20 Eredivisie was suspended on 12 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands and was abandoned on 24 April 2020. FC Groningen finished 2019–20 Eredivisie season as 9th. The club competed also in the KNVB Cup. FC Groningen lost 1–0 against FC Twente in the 2nd round and are eliminated from the cup.
