Stan Wawrinka defeated the defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–7(1–7), 6–4, 7–5, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2016 US Open. It was his first US Open title, and third major title overall. On all three occasions, he defeated the world No. 1 player in the final.
