Elections to Nottinghamshire County Council took place on 4 June 2009, having been delayed from 7 May, in order to coincide with elections to the European Parliament. The Conservative Party gained control of the council for the first time since 1977, albeit with a slim majority. The Labour Party suffered a historic defeat, winning just 13 of 67 council seats, a reduction of 25 seats compared with the 2005 election. The Liberal Democrats also made gains at the expense of Labour, and the Mansfield
