Roger Federer defeated Lleyton Hewitt in the final, 6–0, 7–6(7–3), 6–0 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 US Open. It was his first US Open title and fourth major title overall. He became first man to capture the Australian Open, the Wimbledon Championships, and the US Open in a season since Jimmy Connors in 1974. With the win, he became the tenth man to win three majors in a calendar year. Andy Roddick was the defending champion, but was defeated in the quarterfinals by Joachim J
