The 2001 Categoría Primera B season, was the 12th season of Colombia's second division football league. Deportes Quindío won the tournament for the first time and was promoted to the Categoría Primera A. After expanding the number of Primera A teams from 16 to 18, DIMAYOR organised a special promotion tournament, where the top two teams were promoted. The two DIMAYOR affiliates that were taking part in Primera B and failed to earn promotion were invited to compete, as well as Atlético Bucaramang
