The 102nd Division(1st Formation), was created in February 1949 under the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army, issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948, based on the 34th Brigade of Jianghuai Military District. Its history could be traced to 6th Brigade of New Fourth Army formed in November 1944. The division was a part of PLA 34th Corps.
